Andrea instantly caught our eye with her creative pairing of a bold blue skirt and leopard print top. This 20-year-old fashionista’s outfit also perfectly combines feminine, with the scalloped edge skirt, and masculine, with the brown combat boots. Totally on trend this season, pairing masculine with feminine gives any outfit a unique edge and appeal. Andrea tops off her mix-and-match look with a stylish leather cross-body bag, and just like that we’re sold.
Now class, what did we learn from Andrea today? Be brave, be bold, and go where your average 49er has never gone before.

Name: Satomi (left) & Tomomi (right)
Age: 23
Major: Fashion Merchandising
Class standing: Senior
Occupation: Student
One work to describe yourself: Unique
Style inspiration: Harajuku style
Favorite places to shop: Buffalo Exchange, Urban Outfitters, Imonni, Japanese stores
These twin fashionistas may have the same birthday, but their personal styles are worlds apart. Tomomi mused that she usually goes for a sleek black look, contrasting with her sister Satomi who’s usually shining in technicolor. We caught them on a rare day of role reversal, but just had to capture this sister duo’s eclectic Harajuku inspired style. From Satomi’s hazelnut blazer to Tomomi’s neon watch and tights, these girls play it cool while keeping warm and bring a new twist to old classics.

Name: Kim
Age: 21

Class standing: Junior
Occupation: Future successful artist and graphic designer
One word to describe yourself: Quirky

Call it bias, favoritism, preferential treatment, whatever, my awesome roommate’s got style. Kim is her name, and effortless chic is her game. With a laid back but straight from the runway look, this week’s fashionista makes catwalk looks cool and comfortable. On a breezy Long Beach afternoon Kim muses, “I like old stuff and easy to put together pieces; I don’t like wasting time stressing about what to wear.”
Drawing inspiration from menswear, this future graphic designer extraordinaire strides across campus in the perfect outfit pick-me-up: oxfords. This timeless take on footwear is a quick and stylish way to make any outfit instantly put together. Adding her own personal flair, Kim perfectly pairs the oxfords with a more feminine schoolgirl piece - black knee-high socks. Layering a comfy cardigan over a flattering black v-neck tee, Kim keeps her minimal aesthetic fresh with a vintage inspired necklace and chocolate brown Ray Bans. We thought this look was the perfect transitional spring outfit, one from which all of us can find inspiration and pieces from in our very own closet.
Day after day this Bay Area bred artist and collector of “pretty things” (check out Kim’s Tumblr, shiny pretty things, here) is spot on with her marriage of comfortable and fashionable. Next time you spot those luscious long locks around the halls of CSULB, be sure to give her some props for never forgetting her fashion A game.
